Wandersearch and Safer Walking

Providing tracking solutions for people who go missing

What is it?

WanderSearch provides a tracking system utilised by New Zealand Police Search & Rescue, and Land Search & Rescue volunteers to search for people who have the potential to go out for a walk and not be able to return without assistance. It is a faster method of locating the person and returning them to a safe environment.

How does it work?

The current system comprises of pendants, wrist devices or key-rings which are worn by the person at risk of going missing.  Each device has a unique frequency which emits a pulse.  The pulse is detected using a Radio Tracking Receiver, and a Directional Finding Aerial. As the tracking receiver approaches the device the stronger the pulse will be heard.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of WanderSearch are that it provides a service giving peace of mind to the person, their families and carers so they can maintain a healthy walking lifestyle. It also reduces the resources required by New Zealand Police and LandSAR volunteers when searching for the missing person.

How much does it cost?

Tauranga LandSAR does not charge for their services.  The costs incurred by us are $300.00 for issuing a tracking device with on-going costs associated with the maintenance.  If means allow, we recommend families assist with these costs by arranging a donation to help support their loved one.
